Frank Shima’s second novel Dead Letter (168 pp, $14.95) is a fictional story of murder and romance in Southern Minnesota.
In the late 1980s, two elderly bachelor farmers are brutally killed in their farmhouse. Martin Prescott, a rural route mailman, happens upon the bodies of his two friends. Martin doesn’t agree with Sheriff Trout’s explanation of their deaths as a murder/suicide.
Martin and Diane Kraus, the attractive niece of the two brothers, face danger when they decide to investigate the murders on their own.
Kelly Moran of Bookpleasures Reviews writes of Dead Letter, “It is apparent that Frank Shima has a great understanding of what it’s like to live in a small rural community, especially in the Midwest.
This book, to me, stands apart from others in its genre… there is the mystery and budding romance … but also the humor underlining it…. I expect great things from Frank Shima.”
Frank Shima grew up in New Prague, Minnesota and now resides in Pine Springs, Minnesota. His first novel, Vencil, is also set in Southern Minnesota.
He currently writes freelance articles for the Press Publications in White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
Frank is a winner of the Lake Superior Contemporary Writers’ Series for fictional prose. He was the screenwriter for Doing Time, an original half-hour comedy produced by the Screenwriters’ Workshop, and wrote and produced Junkyard Dog, an original half-hour comedy.
